Sandwell secondary school set to relocate under plan
An entire secondary school will be relocated to a campus almost 10 miles across Sandwell under new education development plans unveiled today.
Under the new proposals Wednesbury-based Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School, which has more than 800 pupils, will move to the site of Oldbury Academy, formerly the site of Langley High School.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham is in talks with Sandwell Council over the move. The plan would also see St Hubert's Catholic Primary School relocated just over a mile from its current site to share to the new campus.
At a meeting on Thursday Sandwell's education chief Councillor Bob Badham is due to approve that the council enters into formal discussions with the archdiocese and the schools.
A council report states that Oldbury Academy is due to fully vacate its former in Moat Road in February.
It states: "The site is large enough to support secondary and primary provision in a location of continuing high demand across both sectors.
"The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham has informed the council of its interest in supporting the relocation of Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School College of Performing Arts from its current location in Wednesbury.
