There were fears over the electrical system and fire alarm at Queen Victoria Primary School.

Meanwhile, Lutley Primary School in Halesowen was also closed today because of a gas leak.

Headteacher at Queen Victoria, Wendy Rawlinson, said the thieves had struck on Wednesday night.

"The parents of all 578 pupils at the school were notified early this morning that the school would be closed while repairs were carried out.

"However, we are hoping to be open as normal on Monday.

"I would urge anyone with information about the stolen lead to inform the police," she added.

Lee Page, spokesman for West Midlands Police, said the thieves had climbed onto the roof before getting away with their metal haul.

He said police would be grateful for any witnesses or anyone with information to call them on 101.

Meanwhile, all of Lutley Primary School's 500 pupils were told to stay at home after staff discovered the gas leak this morning.

St Chad's Catholic Primary in Sedgley reopened today after problems from a burst water pipe.
