Cannock pool is to stay closed all year

The new pool at Cannock's Chase Leisure Centre is now unlikely to be open before Christmas.

Repair work on the hi-tech baths has been hit by a series of problems. Some children have been forced to go without lessons since July because of the problems.

The pool was closed in April last year as part of a £6.5 million overhaul of the leisure centre on the A34 Stafford Road. Lessons were transferred to Rugeley temporarily and due to return to Cannock after it reopened on August 8.

A competition-standard baths has been built in its place but a defect in the tiling, which came to light when the pool was heated, has put the launch on hold.

Councillor Christine Mitchell, cabinet member for culture and sport, said: "We are in the hands of the contractors who are still working on the problem but it is unlikely it will be sorted this side of Christmas."

Some lessons are taking place at Cannock Chase and Cheslyn Hay schools.
