Appeal by MP Gavin Williamson on Tata workers
The Government will be urged to intervene and help 117 workers affected by the closure of Tata steel sites in the Black Country and Staffordshire.
Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, said he would get in touch with Business Secretary Vince Cable to seek support for people losing their jobs.
A total of 53 jobs will go at the former Corus site in Bridgnorth Road, Wombourne. Another 36 will go in Dudley and 18 in Kingswinford.
In Cradley, the Park Road plant will close, but 72 out of 82 workers will be transferred to the Steelpark site in Wednesfield.
Mr Williamson said: "I will ask Vince Cable what can be done to support those people losing their jobs.
"I've also requested a meeting with one of the directors of Tata UK to see if there is any way they will rethink this decision.
"If they cannot then we need to ensure the sites are brought back into use for manufacturing as soon as possible."
Margot James, MP for Stourbridge, said she would be seeking similar assurances that the Cradley site will be used again.
