Delay on new £4.5m Walsall health centre launch
The handover of Pelsall's multi-million pound health centre to Walsall Council has hit delays.
GPs were due to move into the £4.5 million medical centre at the end of last month with work then due to start on phase two of the scheme. But it is now believed there have been a number of issues which mean the start of doctors' surgeries has been postponed.
Work got under way in June last year on Pelsall Village Centre in High Street, which is also expected to host a library and children's centre.
The next stage of the scheme involves demolishing the old neighbouring doctor's surgery to form a customer car park.
Pelsall councillor Garry Perry said he was aware of the delay.
He said: "I had a preview of it in October. It was almost complete. The developer would rather hand over a completed building.
"It's only fair on the people moving in there that they are not disrupted any further. I'm not overly concerned – this happens sometimes with buildings.
"I know they are working flat out to get everything completed," he added.
It is believed the situation is being reviewed daily and an inspection may be carried out next week with a view to handover.
Work is being carried out by Birmingham-based Construction Firm ISG with the new health complex replacing the village's outdated medical centre.
The ground floor of the Pelsall Village Centre will feature the library, pharmacy and children's centre along with health offices and treatment rooms.
On the first floor will be GP practices, a large open-plan waiting area, and treatment and consultation rooms.
