Revamp of shops precinct is on way
A long neglected shopping precinct in a South Staffordshire village could be in line for a much needed revamp.
Villagers are to be invited to have their say on improvements they would like at the Quinton Shopping Centre.
The county and district councils have teamed up to spruce up the precinct as part of a five-year plan to attract new businesses and help those already there.
For many years the Quinton has sparked complaints about empty shops and units and anti-social behaviour.
Council chiefs say the revamp of the site will be heavily influenced by the thoughts of the public and businesses in the area.
A county council spokesman said: "A big part of these plans will be speaking to people in Great Wyrley and the parish council to find out what is needed there and to support what they feel will benefit them."
Leader of South Staffordshire Council Brian Edwards said teaming up with the county council would enable it to undertake projects which it otherwise could not afford. He added: "The Quinton Shopping area has always been of concern to us."
The councils will begin public consultation on the Quinton plans next year.
