Alert as rain and wind to batter region
More rain and wind was set to batter the region today as residents and motorists were warned to expect more flooding misery.
Forecasters said heavy downpours were expected to start moving across the region from late morning, and would continue for much of the day. Gales were predicted to hit some areas with temperatures expected to dip to 3c tonight.
Large amounts of rainfall yesterday caused widespread disruption with motorways closed, drivers brought to a standstill due to flooded roads and delays for train passengers.
Among the roads covered in water today was a section of the B4176 Bridgnorth Road at Wombourne, while Hawne Lane at Halesowen remained closed today at its junction with Congreaves Road, Cradley Heath as water pouring from a slope by the River Stour flooded a bend in the road.
The M5 was closed for five hours yesterday after two lorries crashed between junction one for West Bromwich and junction two for Oldbury.
While the M6 was also shut between Junction 14 for Stafford and 15 for Stone, in Staffordshire after a double decker bus caught fire.
