They have now gone on display in a new Pop Highlights section, which opened on Saturday.

The move comes after Eric and Jean Cass, who own one of the most important collections of contemporary art in private hands, gifted more than 300 works from their personal collection to the Contemporary Art Society.

Key works have been allocated to Wolverhampton Art Gallery, including a neon mannequin by Allen Jones and an Op Art study by Victor Vasarely.

They now appear in the exhibition alongside works by Andy Warhol, Peter Blake, Roy Lichtenstein and Richard Hamilton.

On display are Warhol's Campbell's Soup Can and one of his Jackie screenprints on canvas, inspired by a photograph of Jacqueline Kennedy at the funeral of her husband JFK.

Corinne Miller, head of culture, arts and heritage at Wolverhampton City Council, said: "We are delighted to receive these important works and very grateful to Eric and Jean Cass and the Contemporary Art Society."
