Man in surgical gloves seen at Burntwood murder home
A neighbour saw a man wearing blue surgical gloves get out of a car, pull on a balaclava and enter the home of a Staffordshire businessman Richard Deakin the morning he was shot dead, a court heard today.
Mary Gordon revelead how she spotted a black Vauxhall Corsa park up outside Mr Deakin's home on July 5 2010 from her front window.
She told Birmingham Crown Court today the car stayed there for a few minutes before driving off but came back shortly afterwards, which she thought was "very odd".
She told the court: "I saw the passenger get out and pull something over his face.
"It was black and looked like a balaclava. I also saw some bright blue surgical gloves on his hands. They were quite bright. That's why they stood out.
"I thought it was very odd and at that point I called the police."
David Harrison, aged 63, of Rainbow Street, Bilston, is the alleged gunman, while Darryl Dickens, 34, of Powell Place, also in Bilston, is believed to have driven the getaway car. Both men deny murder.
Ms Gordon said the gunman did not look rushed or panicked at any point when she watched him from her window on the morning Mr Deakin, 27, was murdered in his bed.
She continued: "He looked like he knew what he was doing. He seemed like he had a purpose."
She also described the driver as looking calm as he sat outside in the Corsa and waited for the gunman to return. She continued to watch out of her window, saw the gunman leave Mr Deakin's house in Meadway Street, Burntwood, and get into the car which was then driven off.
