The comedian has not starred in the Wolverhampton pantomime since the 1996 production of Peter Pan alongside Michaela Strachan and Leslie Grantham – and it will be the first time the theatre has staged Sleeping Beauty since 1974.

But the star, who is a previous winner of I'm A Celebrity. . . Get Me Out Of Here, did appear at the Lichfield Street theatre in June in a production of Doctor In The House.

Bosses today said they were thrilled that the star will be leading next year's pantomime season.

Peter Cutchie, chief executive of the Grand Theatre said: "I'm thrilled that Joe Pasquale will be in our 2013/14 pantomime. He appeared at the theatre in June with Robert Powell in Doctor In The House but he hasn't appeared in a Wolverhampton pantomime for more than 15 years so its great to welcome him back for the entire festive period."

This year's production of Jack and the Beanstalk will open on December 8 and it will feature Sherrie Hewson and Keith Harris and thousands of tickets have already been sold. The show will run until January 20 next year.

Tickets for next year's pantomime go on sale on December 10.
