Homes bid to revamp eyesore land in Brownhills
An eyesore patch of derelict land in Brownhills will be transformed into homes under fresh regeneration plans.
The vacant site at the junction of Watling Street and Deakin Avenue is being earmarked for redevelopment.
Walsall Housing Group wants to build a mix of 30 homes on the site which is currently standing empty.
There were previously flats on the land, which is now grassed over and fenced off, but they were cleared last year. Brownhills councillor Barbara Cassidy welcomed the plans to revamp the area. "It is a bit of an eyesore at the moment and is in a prominent place," she said.
"The people I have spoken to who live in Deakin Avenue will be delighted as they have wanted something there."
An improved access road will be created with houses on either side and a three-storey block containing the flats.
Agent Steve Faizey said: "The design concept is to develop the site to provide a mix of residential accommodation, comprising 12 flats and 18 houses.
"The accommodation mix has been determined in conjunction with the council's housing department and to meet local housing need."
The application has been lodged with Walsall Council and will go before councillors or be considered by planning officers under delegated powers.
The houses will be a mix of two bedroom and three-bedroom homes.
It is the latest regeneration scheme for Brownhills with 80 new homes being built as part of plans to transform the canalside near the High Street. Improvements have also been carried out to Humphries House and Severn House blocks of flats.
