Great Barr 99p shop to open with promise of 30 new jobs

Budget retailer 99p Stores is to open a new branch in Great Barr, creating 30 new jobs.The new store on Walsall Road is undergoing a £250,000 makeover.

The opening of the former supermarket is scheduled for next Saturday.

Bosses at the store, have revealed the new store will create 30 new jobs, and they are working closely with Jobcentre Plus to fill the positions.

The firm announced in July they were planning to create 3,000 new jobs in the UK, and they have revealed they have plans to open more stores in the region over the next year.

The store will be the firm's 213th branch in the country.

The boss of 99p Stores Hussein Lalani said: "We are thrilled to be opening up once more in the West Midlands. We have very many branches in the region and the new Great Barr branch comes as a result of people power.

"Our family of customers are telling us: 'We want more stores'. We are opening four new stores next week across the UK."

99p Stores typically sells around 5,000 different products at each of its stores and products range from groceries to gardening and baby-wear to biscuits.

The firm has announced that on its opening day, one customer will undertake a 99-second trolley dash.
