A pub in Walsall town centre that closed its doors last year will reopen next month after being taken over by bosses of a brewery in Brownhills.

The Fountain Inn, which is more than 150 years old, is the first pub to be taken over by the owners of Backyard Brewhouse as part of the firm's expansion. It will create four or five new jobs.

About £50,000 is being spent to refurbish the pub in Lower Forster Street, which closed in September 2011 after landlady Heather Broughton said high rent and beer costs left her hundreds of pounds down.

Backyard director Austen Morgan said the firm intended to take over more pubs. No specific date has been arranged for the launch.
