Big name brands including Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Littlewoods are offering an array of discounts as they try to entice frugal shoppers back onto the high street.

At Debenhams, which has branches at Dudley's Merry Hill Shopping Centre as well as Kidderminster and Walsall, shoppers can enjoy up to 25 per cent off most departments and 10 per cent off all beauty and fragrance items.

Meanwhile, at Marks & Spencer, bosses are hoping to battle back from their poor half-year results, with a series of Christmas offers. There is a three-for-two deal on the Christmas gifts shop as well as buy-one-get-one half price on all beauty gifts.

Shoppers can also pick up bargains online, with Littlewoods offering up to half price on hundreds of toys.

At Beatties in Wolverhampton a two-day sale is planned for November 29 and 30 and the Christmas shop is now open to customers. Sales support manager Julia Roberts said: "We are keen to encourage festive shoppers."

A number of other attractions are being set up in town and city centres including festive markets in Wolverhampton, Bilston and Birmingham. Dudley, Cannock and Wyre Forest Councils have also pledged to offer free parking on a number of dates.
