Elvis tunes gets pub troublemakers All Shook Up
A landlord in the Black Country has a novel way of getting rid of troublesome punters frequenting his pub – he plays Elvis Presley music.
The licensee of the Hope Tavern in Netherton, Dimmy Sangha, uses the Elvis ploy to get rid of unwanted customers. But local residents are not happy the pub can stay open longer.
They complain that customers from the pub make their lives a "nightmare" and they are in Heartbreak Hotel after Dudley councillors allowed the pub to extend its licensing and music hours.
Dudley Police licensing officer Pc Alan Taylor told the council's licensing sub committee that officers had complaints and information about drug dealing on the car park.
"Also prominent members of a gang are using the premises," said Pc Taylor.
"The licensee told us that, when they come, he plays Elvis music to discourage them."
Pc Taylor said police had, over the last 12 months, received 15 main calls to the pub, following complaints of fights, domestic disputes, thefts, damage and loud music.
Mr Sangha originally applied to extend his licence from midnight to 2am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
He agreed to limit the extension to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and cut out the extra hours on Sundays.
And the sub committee decided to allow the revised application provided he meets a string of conditions.
