The 23-year-old was invited to the Civic Centre last night by Wolverhampton Mayor Councillor Christine Mills.

He was joined by a host of other Olympic and Paralympic stars including blind footballer Darren Harris, officials, torchbearers and Games Makers from the city.

During the special event, Councillor Mills said: "It's wonderful to know Wolverhampton has contributed to the success of the Games.

"The city is extremely proud of you all."

Kristian, who grew up in Wednesfield and picked up a bronze medal at London 2012, said it was an honour to be invited to the Mayor's Parlour for the occasion.

He added: "It's lovely for dignitaries to come together in this way and celebrate our achievements in the Olympics and Paralympics."

Other guests at the event included ex-world professional cycling pursuit champion Hugh Porter and his wife Anita Lonsbrough, who won swimming gold at the 1960 Olympics in Rome.

She added: "It's always nice to see people from Wolverhampton doing well. The future is very bright for Kristian."
