Wolves players open new patient room at Compton Hospice [VIDEO]
A state-of-the-art patient room at Wolverhampton's Compton Hospice has been officially unveiled with the help of two Wolves football stars.
Bakary Sako and Tongo Doumbia visited the hospice, on Compton Road West, to see the room which was built with the help of a £20,000 donation from Wolves Aid.
The en-suite facility is one of 18 at the hospice now used for treatment of inpatients.
It forms part of the hospice's £3.5million redevelopment of its main patient unit, with the single rooms replacing multiple bed wards.
Debbie Pearson, medical director at Compton Hospice, thanked Wolves for the very welcome donation.
She said: "We now have individual bedrooms for all of our patients.
"They've got privacy and dignity and they're not having to be disturbed
"We're delighted with it.
"We've got a good partnership with Wolves, who have been very supportive of the hospice.
"It's great that the players could come down and we've had some young children here who have been delighted to meet some of their heroes."
The spacious rooms have showers, chairs and TVs are are specially modified to include hoists for easier movement.
Midfielder Sako, who scored in the club's 1-1 draw against Charlton on Saturday, said it was good for him and fellow Malian Doumbia to visit such worthy projects.
He added: "We didn't know of the hospice before coming but it's very good to come here for us and for them.
"It's a very important place and it has been nice to hear about its history.
"I think the facilities are excellent."
