Homeless drifter Farrow denies the murder of 77-year-old Betty Yates in January this year. She was attacked from behind, beaten over the head with her walking stick and stabbed.

Farrow, 48, admits the manslaughter of Rev John Suddards, who was also found stabbed to death at his vicarage in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, in February. However, he denies murdering the clergyman on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Farrow, of no fixed address, admits the separate charge of burgling Vine Cottage in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, between December 21 last year and January 3 this year.

Mr Justice Field, who has overseen the four-week trial at Bristol Crown Court, ordered the jury of eight men and four woman to consider their verdicts.
