Marie Taylor-Morrison, 42, and husband Andy Taylor, 41, moved from their home in Windsor Avenue, Penn, to Alexandria in Virginia five years ago.

The pair were invited to a 'hurricane party' at a friend's house, where they witnessed winds of around 75mph and heavy rain.

Marie, who has yet to assess the damage to their property, said one of the worst things was the noises hitting the house as the hurricane arrived.

"After experiencing Hurricane Irene we thought this would be the same, but when the storm peaked around 8pm last night we knew it was much worse.

"I was very nervous all day but Andy remained very calm. For a little girl from Wolverhampton, it has been very scary'.
