All change after bus routes see shake-up in Walsall

Improved weekend and evening services have been introduced and an under-used route axed as part of a shake-up of buses in Walsall.

A new Sunday daytime service has been launched on the 77 route between Walsall and Sutton Coldfield. While a 935A bus offering evening and more frequent weekend travel has been created between Brownhills and Birmingham to replace the former 56A service.

However, as part of the changes, the number six evening bus service from Walsall to Sutton Coldfield after 11.25pm has been pulled due to low passenger numbers.

It comes following a review of subsidised bus services. The changes also include the 404 buses between Walsall and West Bromwich being renamed the number four. The 405 has also been changed to the 45.

Transport authority Centro spokesman Peter Cameron said: "We are constantly reviewing our subsidised bus services across the region to make sure that they reflect the needs of passengers and offer the best value for money for the taxpayer.

"This means that we have been able to fund additional journeys on services with high numbers of passengers."

Other changes include a more consistent 33A bus replacing the 33 service from Walsall to Brownhills West. This is being operated by Diamond.

The 637 bus from the town centre to Pleck is now running from the main station rather than the Bradford Place interchange.

The 75 from Aldridge to Kingstanding has changed hands and is being provided by Diamond with the same timetable while Walsall Community Transport is supplying the 22 bus from Walsall to The Butts.

It comes as plans for a new bus interchange worth up to £14 million are being lined up for the town centre.
