Tragic mother's plea on safety measures
A mother whose seven-year-old son died after being knocked off his scooter by a security van outside a supermarket has launched a petition to stop speeding along the "dangerous" road.
Michelle Clifton's son Mitchell died after being hit at the car park entrance to the Co-op, Landywood Lane, Cheslyn Hay, on October 3.
She wants traffic-calming measures. Her online petition called "A Mother's Plea, please help stop another tragedy happening in our village", has 239 signatures.
It calls for support after the life was claimed of "my darling son Mitchell", who was "a young boy with a promising future".
The petition says traffic-calming measures are desperately needed along the stretch of road – especially at the Co-op store entrance.
There had been several minor collisions on the road and on the junction on the high street, due to heavy traffic and poor visibility.
More needed to be done to help pedestrians cross the entrance safely and Landywood Lane.
It was always busy as it is a main entry and exit road to the village and there were a lot of pedestrians as the roads were between schools.
"Most motorists are travelling far too fast."
The entrance to the Co-op was particularly dangerous.
Cheslyn Hay Primary School pupil Mitchell was hit by a white Mercedes Sprinter security van.
The Midlands Air Ambulance arrived but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police spoke to the van driver, 45, of Cheshire.
Residents say they had concerns for some time.
Council bosses say they will look at what measures might be introduced.
