The 1984 javelin gold medal winner will host a 5k fun run around Heath Town Park at 10am tomorrow as part of her Heath Town Baths redevelopment project.

The 56-year-old, who appeared in a record six Olympics, wants to revamp the run down building with her foundation.

The Grade II listed building has been closed since 2006 but the Foundation wants to turn it into a sports academy, with a focus on employment, education, sport and social inclusion.

And Sanderson hopes the run will help the community realise the project can become a reality.

"It's going to be the first of many and hopefully the community will come out and support it. It's really helping towards the start of the Olympic legacy," said Sanderson, who appeared in a record six Olympics.

"Wolverhampton's not going to get left behind and we want to move forward in the future and put them on the map.

"We'll go onto a bigger scale but we want to get these places up and running.

"It's my old stomping ground and it's an opportunity for people to really make this happen. I'm quite positive of making it happen and this is the start of it."

Runners will pick up goody bags and medals for the winners and those wanting to sign up tomorrow can register at: http://regonline.activeeurope.com/Register/Checkin.aspx?EventID=1151181
