Eurofoods Group has recently moved into a warehouse in Darlaston as part of its expansion into the region. Bosses of the international food distributor and manufacturer are now looking to further invest into the premises, in Heath Road, James Bridge, near a planned new road link.

Around 20 workers from the area have already been recruited and another 100 are anticipated over the next 12 to 18 months

Andrew Miller, development director at Eurofoods, said the company wanted to establish a presence in the region as well as its depots in Newport, East London, and Sunderland.

"We had nothing in the Midlands, North West and West London and have been working to resolve this," he said.

"Eurofoods Group supplies restaurants, catering outlets and specialist supermarkets with a range of products from fresh fish to exotic spices.

"The Midlands has good motorway access and is an area where we know people enjoy eating Chinese, Indian and Thai food.

Mr Miller said they had received the support of Walsall Council in establishing in the borough having worked alongside officers.

"Good warehouse spaces are hard to find and Darlaston really fitted the bill," Mr Miller said.

"We make sure we tell other businesses about the support we've had in Walsall so that word spreads."

Regeneration chief councillor Adrian Andrew welcomed the new investment.

"As Eurofoods has proved, this borough has a lot to offer businesses and I'm delighted that the help this firm received was top class," he said.

Darlaston is expected to get a new £26m road link for its proposed enterprise zone.
