Hundreds join Bells of Pattingham charity run
Hundreds of fundraisers pulled on their trainers to take part in an annual charity run in South Staffordshire.
The frosty start yesterday did not put off 555 runners taking part in the Bells of Pattingham event, which organisers said had been a huge success.
The run covers seven miles and starts and finishes in Pattingham in South Staffordshire. It features a multi-terrain course, under UK Athletics rules. A Junior Bells Run for those aged 11 to 17 also took place.
First over the line in the event was Robin Steadman-Smith, from the Telford Harriers, crossing the line first in 42 minutes. Dave Mansbridge, from Telford Athletics Club, was second in 43 minutes 05 seconds and David Smith, from Bilston Athletics Club, third with a time of 43 minutes 18 seconds.
The first lady to finish was Sian Powell, from Kidderminster & Stourport Athletics Club, crossing the finish line in 55 minutes 51 seconds.
The oldest competitor was 84-year-old Hugh Turner, from Nottingham, while the junior 3.5km race was won by Daniel Watling in 11 minutes 35 seconds. Tony Ainsworth, one of the organisers, said: "It was a fantastic event and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone on the day.
"It's been another successful year. It was frosty to start off with but the sunshine broke through and so many of the runners said how much they enjoyed the event. We'd like to thank all those who took part for helping raise the money."
