Jean Martyn ready to be the star of show again
He's been by her side every step of the way of her meteoric rise to fame – now Britain's Got Talent star Jean Martyn is to marry her long-term partner and manager Bob Ware.
Devoted Bob popped the question to his colourful, organ-playing sweetheart while the two were enjoying a Baltic cruise. Jean, of Brewood, said today she was "over the moon".
The engagement comes seven years after they first met through the Rotary Club of Brewood where they were members.
Jean, aged 61, said: "It was a total surprise. I had no idea he was going to propose." In the build up to the big question, Jean was asked to perform several impromptu concerts on the cruise ship after one of the guests recognised her.
The former Cannock Chase High music teacher revealed: "On the very first night a lady came up to me and said I looked a lot like Jean Martyn from the TV.
"When I told her who I was, she gave an almighty scream. Everyone on the ship turned around and then the cruise director came over and asked if I would like to play. I couldn't exactly say no at that point.
"After performing a classical concert on the piano, Bob came towards me. I was surprised because he usually stands in the background.
"He said he wanted to speak to me about a future booking. He pushed the ring on my finger and that was that. I was more than happy to accept his proposal."
She said they had not yet discussed where they would be getting married.
Since Jean made a name for herself on the 2011 series of BGT she has appeared on Channel 5 show Big Brother, Loose Women, Channel 4's The Paul O'Grady Show and has played at St James's Palace and Buckingham Palace.
