Neil Moore was part of the Halesowen Town side which won the FA Vase in 1986 – its second win in the competition in as many years. The father-of-two, from Amblecote, near Stourbridge, went on to make 186 appearances for the Yeltz.

He made his debut in 1985 and made the first team for their 3-0 win in May 1986 against Southall under the famous twin towers.

Fellow players and officials from the club today paid tribute to Mr Moore following his sudden death last Thursday at Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital.

He leaves his wife Nicola together with his children – daughter Alex, aged 21, and 18-year-old son Chris.

Club chairman Colin Brookes said the thoughts of everyone associated with Halesowen Town were with Mr Moore's family.

"It is very sad news as he was fondly remembered as being part of the club's most successful team," he said.

Halesowen Town held a minute's silence before their match against Kidsgrove Athletic at The Grove stadium on Tuesday night.

Former club captain John Woodhouse, who skippered the 1986 FA Vase winning side, added: "It has been a complete shock for everybody. He was a very talented player and everyone got on really well with him."

Mr Moore had played for the Yeltz for around four seasons, and also lined up for Halesowen Harriers.

He worked as a sales manager for a number of clothing and sportwear firms.

His wife of 21 years Nicola said: "He was a family man who was very hard working. He will be much missed."

The cause of death is still to be established.
