Chemical spillage fears at Moog site
A chemical spillage triggered a gas leak at Wolverhampton's Moog factory today, causing hundreds of workers to be evacuated and leading to roads being shut.
Dozens of firefighters were called to the aerospace giant's base in Wobaston Road, Pendeford, after up to 100 litres of chemical spilled out from a container, causing a gas leak.
The fire service was automatically notified when the firm's systems detected a gas in the air.
Road closures were put in place around the scene and motorists had to be diverted around the site following the discovery of the spillage shortly before 9.30am.
Glenn Reader, HR Business Partner from Moog this afternoon said the incident had no impact to the local environment and that workers had been able to return to the site.
He added: "Our health and safety policy requires a full evacuation and that we alert the fire service."
Police today said there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
Firefighters had left the scene by 12.30pm and the 300-strong workforce were allowed back inside.
