Horse owners in new protest

Horse owners marched on a council headquarters for the second time in two weeks in protest at a controversial policy to seize roaming and tethered horses.

Around 20 protestors with 10 horses and carts made the trip from Tipton to Sandwell's Council House in Oldbury yesterday to complain about the animals being seized by council-employed bailiffs.

A similar protest was held last Wednesday and now organisers say they will hold marches every week until they are left alone. Organiser David Stanford, aged 38, of Hawthorn Road, Tipton, said: "We want to cause maximum disruption. The council will have to act. They are spending thousands of pounds on these bailiffs but we will not go away."

Sandwell Council has been cracking down on roaming and tethered horses in the borough because it believes they pose a health and safety hazard. But the policy has been met with outrage by horse owners.
