Neighbours have said a £4 million lottery win for a father and daughter could not have happened to nicer people.

Tipton mother-of-two Irene Harper, is a carer for her husband Barry full-time and helps elderly neighbours by going out shopping for them during the week.

She scooped the jackpot after celebrating her 39th wedding anniversary and 60th birthday in the same weekend. Her father Thomas Foden, aged 80, who lives nearby, is a former Tarmac Construction worker who likes to potter around in his garden and has lived in the same terraced house for around 50 years.

John Morris, a 77-year-old former foundry worker, has lived in the same road as Thomas since the 1960s.

Mr Morris, a grandfather-of-two, said: "He is a smashing bloke. I don't think it will change him at all.

"I wish him well with it. He's a nice guy and a good neighbour to have."

Geoffrey Townsend, a retired drainage worker, who has lived next to Irene for around five years, said he was 'chuffed' for the pair.

The grandfather-of-five said: "She's a fantastic person and neighbour. I wish them luck." His wife Lynn added: "She such a good person, she helps some neighbours with the shopping."

Della Parker has lived near the Harpers for 24 years. The grandmother-of-four tasted her own lottery success when she won £1,000 on a scratchcard on the day she was leaving for a holiday in Lanzarote.

She said: "We've been neighbours for years, we have a laugh and a joke and all that. I say good luck to them, they're lovely people.

"If it was me, I'd be down the travel agent straight away booking a holiday."
