The popular horse riding and pony trekking centre has submitted proposals for an extra 17 stables to accommodate more horses.

It currently has 29 stables. It follows a record number of 17,000 visitors last year to the centre off the main A34 road between Cannock and Stafford. Under the plans submitted to South Staffordshire Council, the existing timber stables will be demolished and replaced by a building catering for 46 stables.

Bosses also want to build a visitor centre at the site, which would include a lounge and cafe area.

The plans also include residential accommodation for a worker.

Owner Lisa Gregory, aged 41, said: "I am so excited and passionate about what we are doing here.

"Last year we were up to 17,000 visitors – a record.

"I knew I would have to up my game, or choose to downscale, and I wanted to keep it going."

There would likely be three new jobs if the plans were approved, she added.

"With the new build, we are going to have someone on reception, a coffee shop worker and another full-time probably."

The centre currently has 44 horses at its stables for trekking activities across beauty spots on the Chase.

It is also used by schools and colleges for organised trips as well as offering students work experience.

The centre is managed by Ms Gregory and employs three full-time and three part-time staff at the site.

The report to the council reads: "The aim of this development is to improve the facilities for the horses, employees and customers and also accommodate the additional needs of increasing numbers of visitors."

The proposals will be considered later this year.
