Hoar Cross spa founder hands reins to his son
A hotelier from Staffordshire will be taking a step back after 21 years at the helm of a spa resort.
But Stephen Joynes, founder of the Hoar Cross Hall Spa resort near Lichfield, is keeping it in the family as he hands over the day-to-day running of the business to his son Steve.
Walsall-born entrepreneur Mr Jones bought Hoar Cross Hall in 1989 at the time when the Grade II listed home was in desperate need of renovation. It was reopened in 1991 after a £30 million restoration and was transformed into a 96-bedroom spa complex.
Mr Joynes, aged 77, said: "Over the last 21 years, I have been on the most wonderful journey, and that same excitement I felt when I first laid eyes on Hoar Cross Hall back in 1989 has never left me to this day. But it is now time to welcome a new era at the hall."
He said his 43-year-old son, who has already run the Eden Spa in Nottinghamshire, cared as much about the resort and staff as he does.
Steve said: "I am delighted to be following in my father's footsteps and taking charge of Hoar Cross Hall. The legacy he has created over the last 21 years is testament to both his ambition and dedication."
He added he had put in place a number of changes, including a new website and branding for the spa resort, which has hosted celebrities, like The Spice Girls and the Duchess of York.
