These pictures give a glimpse inside the new aeronautical engineering factory situated on the i54 business park in Fordhouses, which was officially opened during a special ceremony yesterday.

But it was business as usual for the qualified technicians in the assembly area putting together all the parts.

At any one time up to 40 Moog employees will be working on the assembly line.

Flight control system kits are delivered from stockrooms and put together mainly by hand, taking from three to six weeks.

Michael Rowen, a director with American parent company Moog Inc, said: "Our assembly area can have anything from 35 to 40 certificated technicians working in it at any one time.

"The kit comes in from the stockroom. We put together new parts and also repair parts.

"It can take anywhere between three to six weeks before a part is finished."

There are around 120 benches in the assembly area.

More than 50 guests attended the special ceremony, including company directors, current employees, local councillors and also MPs.

Moog joins scientific testing business Eurofins, which opened its 40,000sqft office and laboratory headquarters at i54 in June.

A new £355 million Jaguar Land Rover factory, which will create 750 jobs, is also being built on the i54 business park.
