Two players started fighting during the Wolverhampton Charity Cup game between New Invention Wanderers FC and Lanesfield Old Boys FC.

Police said they attended King George Playing Fields, in Amos Lane, Wednesfield, at about 12.05pm yesterday.

A 24-year-old, believed to be from Wolverhampton & District Division Two team New Invention, was taken to New Cross Hospital with minor wounds.

No arrests were made. No-one from either club was available for comment.

Earlier this month, two football teams charged with failing to control their players after a mass brawl were forced to quit the league.

The Warley Premier 1 league match between Tipton's Plyvine Rangers and Oldbury's Himley Hawks had to be abandoned when trouble flared in Victoria Park, Tipton.
