A disused factory in Cradley Heath was left gutted last night following a severe roof fire.

Fire crews were called to the blaze at the two-storey building in Woodhouse Way just before 6pm.

On arrival, they broke through steel roller shutters to extinguish the blaze, which covered 80 per cent of the roof.

The brick building was formerly used by sofa manufacturers Rainbow Upholstery and is 130ft by 50ft in size.

Crews from Stourbridge, Cradley Heath, Oldbury and Brierley Hill extinguished the blaze after three hours at the scene, and reattended the scene at midnight. No-one was hurt.

It is believed to have been started after workers cutting steel girders in the roof left pieces of the metal smouldering.
