A suspected thief stole a handbag containing more than £650 and bank cards from a Wolverhampton shop after attempting to disguise himself using a pair of sunglasses.

The man spotted the bag in a trolley at the bargain store B&M, on Bilston Road, and left the shop but returned a few seconds later wearing shades.

The bag had been been left by a woman who had returned her trolley to the store but had forgotten to remove her bag. Images show the thief stepping in front of two female customers to grab the bag, which he claimed was his.

Pc Wayne Harris from Ettingshall neighbourhood team, said: "After unpacking her shopping into the car, the victim returned back to the store to drop off the trolley but in haste, she forgot to retrieve her handbag from the trolley." The theft happened on August 18.
