Shropshire Star's Carl Jones to appear on The One Show

TV presenter Dan Donnelly dropped in at our sister paper, the Shropshire Star, to carry out a 'lightbulb test' with the newspaper's assistant editor Carl Jones.

And the results will be seen on The One Show, on BBC1 on Wednesday night.

So what was it all about?

Carl's blog, suggesting that new eco-friendly alternatives didn't give the same quality of light as old fashioned incandescent bulbs, provoked an avalanche of reaction from both sides of the debate, bringing it to the attention of One Show producers.

And with new EU rules coming into force this week banning the sale of old fashioned 40-watt bulbs, the team headed to the county to find out more.

After quizzing Carl about his comments, and flicking through some of the comments on the Shropshire Star website, they roped in six volunteers for a very un-scientific blind test, to see if people really can tell the difference between traditional bulbs and their energy-saving equivalents.

The results, they say, are truly illuminating . . .
