A man was rescued by fire crews after falling down a 13ft bank into the River Stour at Wordsley.

Emergency services were alerted by two passing teenagers who heard the man's shouts for help last night. He had been in the water, near Balmoral, for around an hour and had suffered a head injury. A crew from Brierley Hill fire station and the Hazardous Area Response Team were called out to help the man, who was in his 50s.

They used ladders to pull him out of the water, which was 12 inches deep, and onto the bank just after 10pm.

He was then treated by paramedics before being taken to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.
