Hundreds of drivers faced delays today because of two separate crashes on the M6.

A lorry crashed with a car on the northbound carriageway between junctions six for Birmingham and seven for Great Barr at about 8.40am.

Two lanes had to be closed to allow emergency services to deal with the crash. At one point traffic stretched back to Coleshill at junction four, almost eight miles.

Earlier today there was a separate crash between two cars and a lorry, which caused more than six miles of tailbacks.

The collision happened at 8.08am on the northbound carriageway between junction 10 for Walsall and 10A for Essington.

Three lanes were initially closed but by 8.27am just the hard shoulder remained shut to motorists.
