A music shop in Staffordshire that closed after falling victim to the recession will hold a clearance sale next month.

Musically Yours, on the Walsall Road in Cannock, had been trading for 28 years before it shut earlier this year.

Bosses blamed the recession for a decline in trade. Now it has been announced that a clearance sale of its stock will take place with 75 per cent off all retail prices.

Liquidators have organised the clearance sale taking place on September 15, 17 and 18 which is likely to attract a lot of buyers.

The store, which opened in 1984 closed in May this year.

The clearance sale will provide the chance for musicians to get their hands on a variety of items.

These will include guitars, ukules, violins, drums, cymbals and other percussion instruments. Amplifiers, microphones, speakers, portable pianos, keyboards and accordions will also be included in the sale.

Council leader George Adamson said the closure of the music shop was a loss to the town.

"The closure after 28 years really is a shame and it is a sign we are in recession," he said.

"It was there a long time, but this gives people a chance to go in one more time and get some last minute bargains," he said.

When the shop closed, a sign on the door read: "Musically Yours retail shop ceased trading as of May 24, 5.30pm due to ongoing recession.

"We thank all our customers for their support over the last 28 years."

A number of studios above the shop are used by instrument tutors including lessons for keyboards, piano and guitar.

The music school remains open but students now have to use a side entrance and not go through the shop.
