A worker has been airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries after a crash involving a bin lorry and a car in Cradley today.

A worker has been airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries after a crash involving a bin lorry and a car in Cradley today.

The man suffered serious injuries to both his legs during the collision.

The man, believed to be a refuse collection worker, was injured in the accident at the junction of Lyde Green and Hillcrest Avenue at around 7am.

Roads in the vicinity were were not expected to reopen until later today.

Paramedics initially treated the injured man, believed to be aged in his 40s until the air ambulance arrived.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Steve Parry said the man had suffered serious injuries to both legs.

"Crews arrived to find a man, believed to be a refuse collection worker, had been seriously injured following a collision between a refuse lorry and car.

"The patient was immobilised with the use of leg splints, neck collar and placed on a spinal board. He was given pain relief before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further assessment and treatment."

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 40s, was taken by ambulance to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital with a head injury.
