An online petition launched by friends of murdered reveller Tom Kirwan, who was stabbed on a night out, has reached almost 400 signatures.

The online campaign is aiming to see similar punishment levels for those convicted of having a blade as those who carry firearms. So far 380 people have signed the campaign.

The petition will be sent to the Ministry of Justice once it is complete. Mr Kirwan, 23, from Oxley, was killed outside Uberra nightclub, in Wednesfield Road, Wolverhampton on July 8.

The avid Wolves fan, who worked at Bridgnorth Aluminium, became involved in a nightclub brawl that spilled on to the street.

Other people were also injured, with some suffering minor wounds that needed hospital treatment.

The club did not reopen on the weekend following the killing but has since started trading again.

Hundreds of people continue to post tributes to Mr Kirwan on a Facebook group page called RIP Tom Kirwan that now has over 2,000 members.

Mr Kirwan's mother Emer and fiancée Jade Elwell previously spoke of how their lives had been ruined forever.

Four men and one woman have been arrested in connection with Mr Kirwan's killing and have since been released on police bail.

A memorial day for Mr Kirwan will take place on Sunday at ECC Sports and Social Club in Bushbury from 1pm. It will include football, a barbecue, raffle and disco. E-petitions are an online campaign service which allows anyone to start a petition about any issue the government is responsible for. If it gets at least 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in the House of Commons.
