Olympics history-making gymnast Kristian Thomas has returned home in Wolverhampton to a triumphant welcome from family and friends.

Proud parents Peter and Catherine Thomas staged a party for their 23-year-old son at their Wednesfield home to celebrate the bronze medal he won at the London 2012 Olympics.

And a banner commemorating his success has been placed along the front of the house in Silverton Way.

Kristian, who was heading to V Festival today with his girlfriend of seven years, Gemma Reid, also 23, has revealed he is targeting another Games in Rio in four years' time.

First, though, he is taking a well-earned break from his 30-hour a week training programme.

"I have thought about Rio – a lot of people have been asking about it," he said. "At the moment I'm letting my body recover from a pretty hard schedule.

"I'm going to take a little break, have a holiday, and then get back to it. Hopefully Rio will be on the cards."
