Knife-wielding robbers burst into a South Staffordshire store and stole money from the till in an early-morning raid.

The raid has sparked investigations that a gang is targeting small supermarkets across the region.

The robbery at the Co-op store in Market Place, Brewood, is the latest in a string of similar attacks at Co-op stores in the region.

Staff were confronted with two armed robbers as they were opening up the store at around 6am yesterday.

Staffordshire Police spokesman Peter Bate said: "We will be looking into possible links between similar incidents at other Co-ops and small supermarkets in South Staffordshire, and across the wider West Midlands region."

He said nobody was hurt during the raid, but that one man had brandished a knife as the robbers demanded money.

After grabbing their haul of money the pair fled on a red motorbike.

The rider wore a yellow high visibility jacket while the passenger, who rode pillion, wore a black jacket.

Last month, two robbers stole cigarettes and money during a raid at the Co-op in Wombourne High Street.

Just days earlier, another Co-op in the village was hit. The Giggetty Lane store was targeted by two men.
