A mother of two, who died of skin cancer, will be honoured by her family when they hold a fundraising night as a tribute to her.

Nikki Griffin, of Stourbridge, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer at Christmas 2010 and battled the disease for more than a year. She died in January aged 41.

Her heartbroken family said they had wanted to repay the kindness of palliative nurses at Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital, who had helped care for Nikki in her final days.

She previously ran a wedding business, called Memories Forever, in the grounds of David Lloyd's Gym, in Brierley Hill.

Nikki's brother, Christopher, a doctor in London, arranged for her to undergo experimental treatment which has worked for many patients.

But unfortunately for Nikki it was unsuccessful.

Carol said: "We are hoping the fundraising evening will be well supported and we hope to raise thousands of pounds for the nurses who were so kind to Nikki.

"We wanted to do something for them and as a fitting tribute to Nikki.

The event will be staged at the Copthorne Hotel, in Brierley Hill, on October 6 from 7pm until midnight and feature music, family entertainment and a raffle.

It has been organised by Nikki's mother Carol, her aunt Gillian Geary and her nine-year-old daughter Mia.

Gillian has designed the tickets for the event with help from Mia who has had a say in their final look.

Nikki's 24-year-old son Jayden has also helped to sell tickets for the event. The family hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the palliative nurses.

And staff at Peters Hill Primary School, which is attended by Mia, agreed to support the nurses as their annual charity next year.

To book tickets for £10, can call 07525 367295 or 07828 262887.
