The community is rallying round to help raise funds for arson-hit Wednesfield Aces Speedway Club – including a butcher who has created a special sausage in support.

Flames swept through the group's clubhouse, destroying its office, dining area, and kitchen along with memorabilia, trophies and photographs.

But local people and businesses are rushing to help the club, which has already received donations of four rent-free temporary buildings, replacement fridges and furniture, cleaning products, skip hire and new insulation.

And fundraising ideas to help the club get the £5,000 it needs to get back on its feet are now pouring in.

Communications officer Glyn Rowley said one plan had come from David Price Butchers, in Griffiths Drive.

He said: "The butchers has produced a special sausage called Wednesfield Aces Banger and will be donating 50 per cent of the proceeds to the club. That's absolute class." Fatties Fishing Tackle, also in Griffiths Drive, has arranged a fundraising fishing contest.

Paula Doherty, mother of club member and ex-speedway champion Scott, has arranged a sponsored walk and car boot sale, while National Express is set to have a collection among staff.
