First look at Wolverhampton's Low Level station revamp

Developers behind the transformation of Wolverhampton's historic Low Level station have opened up its doors for a sneak peak inside ahead of its grand unveiling as a banqueting hall.

Work is under way to revamp the grade II-listed building into a venue for hundreds of revellers.

Its doors are due to reopen as early as October, after 30 years lying empty.

The main parts of the station are being transformed into two main banqueting suites. One will accommodate 700 guests, while the other will have the capacity for 200.

It is expected to become one of the city's most sought-after venues and could be used for wedding and prom parties.

Workers are currently replacing parts of the roof and the old windows, while the outside bricks will be cleaned.

Building designer Nazmiye Gok said the character of the station was being kept but it will have a modern, minamilistic feel inside. She added that the historic features, such as the plaster work on the walls and ceilings, will remain.

The £1 million project will create up to 40 new jobs and bring the landmark building back into use for the first time in 30 years. The hall will be called Grand Station.

The future of Low Level has been in limbo for four years, after £6m plans to create a casino collapsed.

It is now owned by Manjit Singh Sidhu and Vishal Basir.
