Jamaica athletes join Beverley Knight for independence celebrations
Decked out in carnival colours, some of the top musicians, athletes and performers from Jamaica came together for a celebratory concert in honour of the country's 50th anniversary of independence.
Hundreds packed into Birmingham's Symphony Hall for a star-studded line-up headed by Wolverhampton's own Beverley Knight and the Jamaican athletics squad.
Team Jamaica, which has been training at the University of Birmingham, were greeted like heroes by the excited audience as they took to the stage to pose for pictures.
And while record-breaking runner Usain Bolt failed to make an appearance, gold medal winning sprinter Asafa Powell entertained the crowds by imitating Bolt's signature celebration gesture.
The audience danced in the aisles as musicians including Birmingham-born singers Abigail Kelly and Jaki Graham, the Birmingham Musical Youth and the Town Hall Gospel Choir and comedians entertained.
Wolverhampton's Beverley Knight, who sang hits by reggae greats Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff to the delight of the crowd.
