A pupil from Pool Hayes Arts and Community School has won an award for her courageous approach to life.

14-year-old Megan Bancroft has been presented the Diana Award in the courageous citizen category because of the impact her actions have had on others.

Megan was nominated by staff at Pool Hayes for her selfless actions in putting others first both in school and at home.

The Diana Award was established in 1999 in memory of Princess Diana and as a legacy to her belief in young people and, to date, over 36,000 young people have received it.

Her form tutor Charan Singh said she is a great pupil, adding: "She gets on with life and does not allow herself to be put down by any obstacles".

At home Megan has taken upon herself the responsibility for looking after her family whilst also managing her school and homework commitments.

The award winning pupil was given the given the honour in a school assembly on Wednesday July 18, where parents and classmates were in attendance.

Headteacher Jim Clarke said: "Megan is an inspiration to us all and I am delighted she will receive this recognition for being such a caring, loyal and responsible young person."
