He may be house hunting in London's exclusive Primrose Hill, but One Direction's Liam Payne proved he is still a Wolverhampton boy at heart when he popped back to his home city for a curry and a spot of bowling.

After growing up in a modest house in Bushbury, the 18-year-old now has his sights set on something far more flashy as he searches for a plush pad in one of London's most sought-after areas.

The boyband star was recently shown around a £1.35 million penthouse apartment, boasting a glass staircase and situated just minutes away from Hampstead Heath. His bandmate Harry Styles, also 18, is also eyeing up a move to Primrose Hill.

One Direction, who found fame on The X Factor and are signed to media mogul Simon Cowell's Syco label, have raked in millions of pounds after becoming global sensations during the past 12 months.

But despite all his riches, Liam still has his feet firmly on the ground, according to father Geoff, and loves nothing more than coming back to Wolverhampton to see his friends and family.

The former St Peter's Collegiate pupil returned to the city earlier this month, on July 14. He went out for Sunday lunch to the Cross Guns Inn, Codsall Wood.

Geoff said: "Liam popped home for about 48 hours last weekend. He came up on the Saturday and went back on the Monday.

"We went for a carvery at the Cross Guns. A waiter commented on how much Liam looked like Liam Payne from One Direction. When he told him he was Liam, the guy brought about six members of female staff over. They all wanted to meet my son. It was great."

Liam and his family also went to Penn Tandoori, on Penn Road, for a curry and Strykers bowling alley in Bushbury.

Geoff added: "Liam likes to get back home. He likes to get back to normality."

This year alone, One Direction earned £32m between them, helped by their album Up All Night which topped the charts in 16 countries and their DVD.

And they are to star in their own film, potentially netting each member a whopping £10m each.
