Up to 700 new homes, a primary school, a care home and shops are to be built in Staffordshire, under ambitious plans which have been revealed today.

Miller Homes Limited has released initial proposals of the development, which also includes a new community centre, restaurant, pub, open space, a children's play area, allotments, footpaths and cycle routes on land north of Burton Road in Streethay, between Netherstowe and Curborough, on the north eastern edge of Lichfield.

The development will be built on agricultural land on a 136 acre site, with access created for the new development from Burton Road.

The majority of the new homes will be two and three storey buildings, but Miller Homes say this will be confirmed at the design stage.

The housing firm says around 25 per cent of the homes will be affordable housing,

When the plans were first mooted, Miller Homes said the development would be for 850 homes and the proposal included a new leisure centre, which has also been dropped.

The plans have been welcomed by the leader of Lichfield District Council and Fradley and Streethay parish councillor Michael Wilcox.

He said: "It will bring in new families and provide opportunities for work."
